Fur is set to fly

Article Abstract:

Out-of-town superstores selling a wide range of supplies for pets are posing an increasingly serious threat to traditional high street retailers of pet supplies in the UK. There were only 2,464 pet supplies outlets with sales of less than 100,000 pounds sterling a year in 1995, from 2,784 in 1991. There were 115 superstores with sales of more than 500,000 pounds sterling a year in 1995, from 45 in 1991. The largest superstore retailer of pet supplies is PetSmart, which purchased the Pet City chain of 50 outlets at the end of 1996.
