AHA survey: nurse shortage eases dramatically
Article Abstract:
Hospitals surveyed by the American Hospital Assn reported that nursing vacancies fell from 11% in 1990 to 8.7% in 1991. In addition, hospitals increased their nursing staffs by 6%. Among the responding institutions, 84% offered tuition assistance to licensed practical nurses, compared to 81% in the previous period. Authorities predicted health care reform will reduce the need for hospital nurses but add openings for nurse practitioners.
