Pat N. Groner is the president emeritus of the Baptist Health Care at Pensacola, FL. He was the founder of the Hospital Research Development Institute and Voluntary Hospitals of America. His more than four decades of experience as a health care administrator has earned him the reputation of being a builder of the profession and an inspiration to his colleagues. He believes that anyone can reach for the top because there's always room for the fearless and determined.

The president and COO of a managed care firm in Wichita, KS analyzes the prospects of the health care maintenance industry. Health maintenance organizations are urged to develop a community perspective in their strategy to survive competition. Organizations which are responsive to the community are tapped to survive the future. The dynamics and mechanics of this community perspective are also discussed.
