Records Management Audit
Article Abstract:
Establishing control over recorded information is the goal of any records management system. A management audit is a method of judging the efficiency of an operation. Efficiency ratios frequently used to grade a record management program are references, accuracy, personnel, physical layout, and operation costs. The audit procedure starts with establishing standards against which to gauge performance. The next steps are to collect data and to locate and evaluate variations from the standards. Then management must decide what should be done to remedy and deficiencies and determine a course of corrective action. A flow chart and tables illustrate the article.

Records Management Control System: Central Files
Article Abstract:
Processing and distributing a patient's medical record correctly and in a timely manner, is the most important function of the medical records department. There are three functions which effect the achievement of this goal: availability of the record, quality of the record file, and on-demand delivery of the record file. The Medical Records Department at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago improved their performance by reorganizing the main file area, establishing a new operating system, instituting individual responsibility and setting up a system for measuring performance. A flow chart and tables illustrate the program.
