An Overview of Records Management
Article Abstract:
Providing accurate and timely medical data is vital in the health care field. The storage, retrieval, and distribution of patient information encompasses the use of forms, X-rays, micrographs, word processing, and computers. Records management consists of controlling existing information, maintaining that information in an efficient manner, and disposing of that information when it becomes useless. A records manager must direct the three phases of a record's life cycle: creation, maintenance, and disposition. An example of a coding system used in subject filing is illustrated.
