Transitions in insurance and employment among people with HIV infection

Article Abstract:

Analysis of data from the AIDS Costs and Service Utilization Survey and a follow up study on some HIV-positive patients on the progress of their employment and insurance status showed that a significant percentage of patients moved from no coverage to public coverage as they progress from HIV-positive to full-blown AIDS. Fifteen percent of HIV-positive patients lost their coverage as they progressed to AIDS and among the HIV positive patients, 65% were unemployed and without access to insurance.

Who owns the problem of the uninsured?

Article Abstract:

The lack of insurance coverage for a large percentage of the population is exacerbated by the growing reluctance of employers to pay for their employee's health care needs. At the same time, the government is also reducing the budgets for Medicare and Medicaid. One viable way to provide insurance for everybody is to stimulate the growth of a market for individual insurance, while another option is to increase funding for clinics and hospitals that serve the uninsured.

Is insurance for children enough? the link between parents' and children's health care use revisited

Article Abstract:

Government studies have revealed that the use of physician services by children depends on the frequency by which parents' utilize such services. Children's access to health care is often determined by the parents' utilization of health care services. Thus, government health policies such as the State Children's Health Insurance Program and the Omnibus Budget Reconcialiation Acts are focusing more on increasing children's access to health care services.
