Rapid tests for HIV infection

Article Abstract:

Clinical testing shows that the two rapid tests for detecting HIV-1 antibodies, OraQuick and Reveal, are more than 99% sensitive and performed with a single visit of the patient. Oraquick is simpler between the two and has been considered suitable by the US government for use on a larger scale. HIV-1 antibody positive results need a confirmatory Wester blot or indirect immunofluorescence assay in both cases.

Time and change in HIV testing

Article Abstract:

The American Medical News' (AMA) second edition of its HIV blood-testing guidelines emphasizes patient counseling. The AMA supports routine HIV testing of all patients, with special emphasis on adolescents and women, who are increasingly becoming infected with the virus. HIV testing helps physicians develop proper treatments and helps HIV-positive patients prepare for the development of AIDS.
