Profiles of corporate technological capabilities - a comparison of large British and German pharmaceutical companies
Article Abstract:
Country-specific factors have resulted in a more cohesive German pharmaceutical technological path than in the British pharmaceutical industry. Science-based pharmaceutical companies create their own individual styles of organizational and technological capabilities and technological trajectories. The corporate technological capabilities of a German drug firm is more cohesive compared to the British counterpart, indicating the significant role national factors have on technological trajectories. Moreover, technological diversification is the result of combining technological activities with the existing technological competencies.

Transitions in thinking: changing the mindsets of policy makers about innovation
Article Abstract:
The Central and Eastern European (CEE) economies have been undergoing vital socio-economic changes since their individual economic shift to capitalism and market economy in the early 1990s. However, the CEE's policy makers and their advisers have remained loyal to the socialist model of innovation despite these developments. This can be attributed to a number of factors, including the model's institutional embeddedness in these societies, the relative effectiveness that the policy tools and targets associated with the model still enjoys, and the need among policy makers and researchers to maintain the status quo.
