The role of external technical support in the innovation performance of scientific instruments firms: empirical evidence from New York State
Article Abstract:
External technical support and geographical location play a key role in the innovative activity of manufacturing firms. Survey data from 81 firms in New York State showed that support innovation geographically differs. Downstate firms exhibit strong innovation performance compared to their counterparts in the North. Moreover, downstate firms have support innovation for a longer period than those situated in service-poor environments, in terms of local stocks and research facilities. Firms located along the New York City metropolitan area have also been found to create an easier access to technological resources compared to those in remote places.
