Jules Sebastian Cesar Dumont D'Urville was a well-known French explorer. His explorations included a hydrographic survey of the Mediterranean Sea in 1820 and circumnavigation of the world in 1822. D'Urville's image appears on a French stamp that is part of a 1988 series of explorers.

Gonzalo Jiminez de Quesada
Article Abstract:
Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada, a 16th century Spanish explorer of South and Central America, was nonviolent, unlike many of his contemporaries. He managed to claim land for Spain without killing the indigenous peoples. Jimenez is depicted on a 1992 Bulgarian stamp.

Diogo Cao
Article Abstract:
Cao was recognized in 1945 by his native country, Portugal, for his contributions to Portugal's explorations in the late 1400s. Cao explored the African coast on two separate occasions that are known. Circumstances of his life and death are minimal.
