Quartzsite residents exploited their area's potentials to come up with the annual gem and mineral fair which attracts visitors from other localities. The fair showcases a vast array of fine jewelry, gemology books and other merchandise and is a worthwhile yearly event for gem enthusiasts.

Missouri's gem jackpot

Missouri's state stone mozarkite was named by Linville Harms. As a child, he often dug the stone but believed it had no value. A turn of events led him to devote his time to mining mozarkite and turning it to jewelry. In 1967, Missouri adopted mozarkite as its state rock.

Spokane Bar is a sapphire mine located along the Missouri River in Montana. Sapphires are found around three miles upstream from the Bar. The mine used to be a major gravel bar.
