It is difficult to see South African President Nelson Mandela as an ordinary man. He has shown great courage and determination, and has never abandoned dignity and pride, even when his life was in danger. He has great strength of personality, but also allows his views to be changed by the opinion of the majority. He has sometimes used unorthodox tactics to win, and thinks carefully about every move. When in prison, he sought no special status, and did not wish to be singled out by prison officials and visiting dignitaries.

Article Abstract:
Many of the ideas behind the current welfare reform plan were developed by David Ellwood. His concept was to get able-bodied welfare recipients to work in exchange for child care and health care benefits. Republicans in Congress, however, maintained the time limits on payments without providing the services to make the plan work.
