Robinson advocated informal gardens and Blomfield was a staunch supporter of the traditional formal garden. Blomfield used sculpture buildings and hedges to enclose flowers and shrubs into a particular design. Robinson advocated the use of native plants, vines and creepers to create a natural effect.

Prince Charles and others are concerned at the inability to find and buy some of Britain's heirloom seeds. The need to standard seed names throughout the common market countries caused the creation of a national list. Ways to get new seeds on the list, or to obtain unlisted varieties are discussed.

The British dislike having their home and garden open to public viewing so they enclose them with fences, walls or hedges. Tall, thickly grown hedges are the most popular. In contrast, American yards are generally open. The obsession with hedges has led to interesting disputes and lawsuits.
