Residential furniture statistics indicate that the industry is improving according to various performance benchmarks in 1997 compared to 1996. The major trends affecting the industry include a slow-growth pattern which has characterized the industry since 1991-92, the industry's improving market share, which have not regained its 1980s levels and the faster growth of imports compared to domestic shipments.
