Knowledge regimes and political power: the social construction of knowledge
Article Abstract:
Research in industrial relations in Singapore highlights the need to regard research as a social process within which the dynamics of power configurations are deeply embedded. Findings from empirical research in Singapore demonstrate the utility and dangers of standpoint epistemologies. It can be seen that constituting the truth is a social process contained within the power relations between various players in the field of industrial relations. Singapore lacks natural resources, and labour has thus become the key resource for production. The control and regulation of labour are vital in the Singaporean economy.

The EEC's new social dimension
Article Abstract:
Jacques Delors, the head of the new social policy commission for the European Economic Community, seeks to enhance deregulation. A variety of constitutional congresses are now being conducted, with several members seeking a reduction or the elimination of the increasingly used national veto right. The present situation parallels that which existed during the 1970s, when there was a greater call for increased integration, leading to active intervention into some countries' social policies.
