Timing isn't everything
Article Abstract:
Market timing as an investment strategy is not necessarily the best method to use. Market timing involves managing a portfolio on the basis of the volatility of the stock market. Long-term returns may be high, but short-term returns can fluctuate greatly. Long-term returns can be greater than the returns from static investments if the timing is right. Timing strategies usually are either too risky or ineffective for investors who are saving for education or retirement.

Clients who have significant lifetime gifts should avoid Tennessee, New York, North Carolina, Connecticut, Delaware and Louisiana because of the gift tax.
