A shared understanding: Gadamer and international conflict resolution
Article Abstract:
Hans-Georg Gadamer's contribution to international conflict resolution is examined by applying his Truth and Method and Plato's Dialectical Ethics to conflict theory. In his view, understanding is important, because conflict resolution engages the parties to a conflict in a dialogue of interpreting meaning and values.

A better understanding of the factors that make interstate and intrastate crisis endure and escalate into violence is discussed by analyzing international crisis behavior from 1918 to 1994. Details about the crisis actors drawn from the International Crisis Behavior (ICB) dataset are discussed.
