Crescent and Sword: The Hamas enigma
Article Abstract:
The historical ascendancy of Hamas from a fringe Gaza-based group to become a mainstream Islamic movement and the representative of dispossessed Palestinians has resulted in the killings of prominent Hamas leaders since 2001. However, Hamas presents a challenge to the secular nationalism of the PLO but there is no evidence that political support is a condition for the financial assistance given by Hamas to poor Palestinians.
