India's nuclear status quo

Article Abstract:

India is unlikely to alter its nuclear policy in the absence of a worldwide committment to total disarmament. In addition, India in unlikely to relinquish its nuclear option and its nuclear policy will continue to be dictated by security concerns in the Sub-continent. India will continue to desist from testing or deploying nuclear weapons unless pressurized into doing so by the global community. India will also persist in refusing to endorse the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty for its undue focus on non-proliferation rather than disarmament.

The flawed case for nuclear disarmament

Article Abstract:

Nuclear disarmament was not a consideration in military policy during the Cold War era although the subject in terms of improving the nation's security has been debated since the beginning of the nuclear age. However, sustained, broad-based interest in nuclear disarmament has significantly increased since the end of the Cold War, with the elimination of the geopolitical rivalry that fueled the nuclear arms race. Nuclear disarmament and flaws in arguments of those who support it are evaluated.

The prospects for nuclear stability between India and Pakistan

Article Abstract:

The prospects for establishing a nuclear-deterrent relationship between India and Pakistan are analyzed. It is argued that industrialized countries with the cooperation of China can help establish such a relationship via initiatives such as arms-control and direct technical-military measures. Industrialized countries should also avoid showing approval for the actions of either India or Pakistan.
