Monetarism, Employment and Social Stratification
Article Abstract:
Both Argentina and Chile have adopted economic policies based on monetarism. These policies have altered the economic and social structures of the countries. One change has been in the employment situation. The occupational changes break with the past to an extreme degree. Trends over the past thirty years are examined. Monetaristic policies in the two countries are responsible for the reduction in industrial wage earners, and an emergence of an informal sector in the social stratum.
