Pablo Neruda and the struggle for political memory
Article Abstract:
This article discusses how poetry can enter the political process by examining Chilean poet Pablo Neruda's engagement with politics as a Nobel laureate, international diplomat and political activist. The author asserts that Neruda wrote in the language of everyday life to make his engagement with politics accessible to the public, while breaking through existing linguistic habits through which domination becomes objectified; Neruda's engagement with political issues such as fascism, imperialism and class domination are examined.
