Article Abstract:
Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns, U.S. permanent representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), discusses the position and future of NATO at a time when the U.S. is facing challenges posed by terrorism, weapons of mass destruction and other threats overseas bringing differences in Trans-Atlantic ties. The credibility of NATO, the ways to strengthen it by inducting seven new members, the challenges which it has to overcome and above all the faith in NATO as a guide for a future in Europe and beyond, are stated.
