The Inter-American regime of citizenship: bridging the institutional gap between democracy and human rights

Article Abstract:

The Inter-American Citizenship regime is seen as being instrumental in bridging the gap between democracy and human rights. Regional co-operation could benefit by re-assessing the activities of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and other such institutions that revolve around the issue of citizenship.

The author explains why the amount of financial aid to the Third World is declining, despite optimism among policy makers about the value of assistance to developing nations. Factors cited include the decline of the Welfare State in developed countries and lack of public support.

Beyond the North-South divide: the two tales of world poverty

Article Abstract:

The Bretton Woods paradigm and the UN paradigm are discussed as alternatives to the traditional North-South divide as approaches to world poverty. The 1997 Agenda for Development is also examined as a middle-of-the-road approach.
