The challenge of critical theories: peace research at the start of the new century

Article Abstract:

This article examines the field of peace research since the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s, claiming that it is still a relevant course of study and as an emancipatory concept in a world still rife with violence and conflict. The author traces the challenges of critical theories on the epistemology and ontology of peace research; realism is seen as the direction peace research and politics should follow.

Does war impede trade? A response to Anderson and Carter

Article Abstract:

This article examines the debate over whether or not war impedes trade and works as a deterrent to leaders from engaging in war. The authors find that arguements advanced in support of the theory that war impedes trade to be unsubstantiated; political dimensions effecting trade and war were not sufficiently considered, and commercial liberal theory is overemphasized.
