The decline of revolutionary Islam in Algeria and Egypt
Article Abstract:
Revolutionary Islamists have ceased to be a threat in both Egypt and Algeria, despite murders in both countries. Authoritarian Middle Eastern regimes have met the threat with violence, though they have not secured peace, and insurgency continues. There are a number of challenges that have to be met in these societies, such as corruption, inequality, and crowded urban areas. There is a need for political reform to encourage greater participation, and the US should seek to promote this goal.
