Theorizing masculinity with/in the media
Article Abstract:
Mass media depictions of masculinity is usually that of the hegemonic male who dominates and has the characteristic personality and physique of film action heroes. However, competing and contrasting masculinities have emerged such as those espoused by feminists and even gays. The media's representation of the concept is subject to social norms and trends and, in turn, influences society's formulation of its particular notion of masculinity.

Organizing men: power, discourse, and the social construction of masculinity(s) in the workplace
Article Abstract:
The concept of organizational masculinity within the context of the workplace is analyzed from a feminist viewpoint of a male social critic. The hegemonic character of masculinity becomes a central focus as it reduces competing forms to a state of lesser importance and even marginalization. The consequent idea of male power and dominance is really not as monolithic as it appears. It can also become lost in contradictions and tensions.

Disciplinary violation as gender violation: the stigmatized masculine voice of performance studies
Article Abstract:
The concept of masculinity as a communication phenomenon and the manner by which performance studies has described such a concept are discussed. Masculinity is generally not a natural offshoot but a socially and culturally determined idea, which makes it unnatural, that is equated with power and dominance that are, in themselves, at best arbitrary and subject to the norms of the times.
