An economic analysis of guns, crime, and gun control

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze two economic models supporting the demand for guns for creation, self-protection or criminal purposes, and in which crime is supplied. The influence of crime and gun-control policies in demands to carry concealed handguns for self-protection was also examined. Results indicated that increasing crime control measures may minimize crime. Findings also showed that gun control policies may promote a negative influence on guns owned for self-protection and recreation.

Age, self-control, and adults' offending behaviors: a research note assessing 'a general theory of crime.'

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to test whether M. Gottfredson and T. Hirschi's general theory explained criminal and imprudent behaviors among a community sample of adults across the age distribution. Crime measures were chosen and modified from the National Youth Survey delinquency scale. The sample was then categorized into three age classifications. Results indicated that self-control correlated with self-reported offending activity through age 50.
