Avoiding "cloudcuckooland" in ethics committee case review: matching models to issues and concerns
Article Abstract:
Ethics committees should vary their case review models on a case-by-case basis, selecting the form most appropriate for the specific ethical issues and concerns involved. Certain cases are best dealt with by the committee as a whole, such as those involving complex or global ethical issues. Others can be better handled by a small team or by individual committee members acting as consultants. Furthermore, a single case may be handled successively in different formats in any sequence. This approach recognizes the diversity of situations yet allows for unity by flexibly employing the ethics committee.
