Interview with a heretic
Article Abstract:
Jack Spong, episcopal Bishop of Newark, NJ, believes that he has to bear witness to the truth as God has led him to see the truth. For this reason, he makes no excuses for his outspoken views, which have attracted considerable controversy. He is in favour of the idea of a commission being set up to investigate human sexuality. However, he does not intend to remain silent if the views of traditionalists prevail. He wants gays and lesbians to know that they have some support within the Anglican Communion.

Confiscation by the ruler: the rise and fall of Jewish lending in the Middle Ages
Article Abstract:
Jewish lenders in medieval England risked confiscation of loans made to the ruler. However, rulers would forego confiscation as long as they received more revenue from taxation of the lenders than from confiscation. The high tax revenue was the result of the high interest rates charged on loans to subjects. As alternative, untaxed loan sources emerged, confiscation of Jewish loans increased.
