Article Abstract:
Increasing use of the Internet has intensified the debate over access and censorship issues for public libraries. Since children comprise a major part of public library clientele, the conflict has centered on restricting children's access to pornographic Web sites. Although proponents argue that security software packages are an effective means of blocking access, critics claim these programs are either insufficient or can inadvertently block legitimate information.
