Future of Web filtering
Article Abstract:
The library board of Loudoun County, VA voted in response to a suit to intall filtering software on all library computers, but to give adults the option of turning the filter off and to ask parents of children to sign a statement stating whether they want unfiltered Internet access for their children. Mainstream Loudoun v. Loudoun County Library struck down the original filtering policy, noting that more restricted methods for blocking children from seeing objectionable sites could be used and the policy violated freedom of speech.

Scientists: grass is greener in law
Article Abstract:
Too many Ph.D.s, decreasing federal research funds and a weak job market in the biotechnology private sector have led many scientists to change careers, and some have gone to law school to become biotechnology lawyers, a legal specialty growing rapidly. John McDonald has become a biotechnology patent lawyer and remains creative by suggesting ways to broaden a patent. Some are also attracted by the pay, which far exceeds what scientists make.
