Institutionalization of ethics: the perspective of managers
Article Abstract:
A study has been conducted to identify managerial perceptions regarding the institutionalization of ethics in organizations. Questionnaires were mailed to 255 human resources managers. Only 87 of these questionnaires were returned and fed into the database. Findings have validated the importance of the strategic fit which has been defined as the compatibility between organizational strategy and existing organizational systems, policies, procedures and culture. It was also found that managers did not perceive ethics officers and ethics committees to be effective in institutionalizing ethics.

Exploitation or choice? Exploring the relative attractiveness of employment in the maquiladoras
Article Abstract:
Worker exploitation, defined as the use of another person's labor power without just or equivalent returns, is one of the major criticisms against the maquiladora industry or maquilas in Mexico. This issue brings into question the evaluation of the ethical behavior of multinational firms in developing countries. One constituent of an acceptable multinational behavior, identified by De George and Donaldson in their studies, was the payment of at least subsistence wages. Evidences suggest that a productive role for lower class workers can be played by the maquila industry.

Faust and the ethos of business: a report from Grand Rapids, Ciudad Juarez, and Muskegon
Article Abstract:
The ideas reflected in Goethe's 'Faust,' which are important to business ethics, were examined in the context of three cities: Grand Rapids, Ciudad Juarez and Muskegon. The economic development of the three cities is characterized by increases in output and productive efficiency. However, they also experience a decline in population, employment and local ownership. This trend brings into question the economic and social costs of community breakdown, the relationship between that breakdown and rapid economic growth.
