Aphid saliva
Article Abstract:
The term aphid refers to any member of the Aphidoidea in a broad sense, but feeding strategies may vary significantly between families, although there is much similarity in salivary function within the family. Sedentary, gall-forming aphids may have salivary functions distinct from those of aphidids. The physical and chemical nature of the salivary secretions, methods of analysis of aphid saliva, similarities and differences in saliva composition, are considered. The stylet sheath of aphidids is mostly protein and appears to inhibit necrotic responses in plants. Watery saliva contains free amino acids and is secreted intermittently during feeding. It is concluded that aphids saliva mediates both choice of food plant and effects on the plant.

Long-term care - a vital product in an evolving environment
Article Abstract:
Long-term care insurance is becoming critical because few Americans are prepared for their potential health costs in old age and some time in a nursing home is likely for two out of every five 65-year-olds. These insurance products are changing to meet the needs for skilled, intermediate and custodial care instead of just the skilled care needs they originally addressed. Government programs provide minimal aid for long-term needs and some long-term care planning is wise for anyone with assets less than $1 million.
