Moving into management
Article Abstract:
The career move from professional to manager is a difficult transition because the employee is required to develop new skills, behaviors and attitudes while continuing with the other duties as well. Management training fails to adequately address transition issues and prepare new managers for their new duties and roles in relation to other employees. Some changes include a focus on human relations rather than technical skills, conflict resolution over conflict avoidance and task delegation over personal performance. A three-phase management training model is included.
