Change at Bhs - evolution not revolution
Article Abstract:
British Home Stores at the beginning of the 1990s had financial problems and reviewed operations to find the cause for the business's problems. There was a change in corporate culture which included a move toward skills-based pay for the retail sales personnel, flexible benefits for the managers and a stock option scheme for all employees. As a result, the company's profits rose 11% in the year ending Apr 1996.

Harmonised pay bands at Royal Ordnance
Article Abstract:
The UK's Royal Ordnance has introduced a pay policy designed to harmonize the salaries and work conditions of both industrial and non-industrial staff. The plan, based on broadbanding, should help the company achieve business integration and increased productivity. A profit-related pay scheme is also part of the plan, which took effect in mid-1996.
