Rat day afternoon
Article Abstract:
Hillside, NJ, resident Frank Balun was charged with needlessly killing a rat and being a disorderly person by the Associated Humane Society's Lee Bernstein. Balun had earlier called the Humane Society to pick up a rat he caught in his tomato patch. However, when the Humane Society arrived at his house, the rat was already dead because Balun killed it before it could escape. However, the prosecution eventually moved for the dismissal of the case, citing Balun's call to the Humane Society to prove that he was not an animal beater.
