Seeking harmony; is the Asian concept of the conciliator/arbitrator applicable in the West?
Article Abstract:
Asian cultures tend to be seekers of harmonious solutions which keep the relationship intact and such cultures take naturally to a combination of the conciliation and arbitration processes. This combination can make reaching a consensual settlement while preserving a working relationship between the parties easier. Such a system seems to have worked well in Asia and Western cultures should not shrink from its use.

Court-connected mediation in Korea
Article Abstract:
Issues regarding the differences between court-connected mediation in Korea and its Western counterpart are discussed. Mediation in Korea is a public process, and when the parties do not agree, the mediation judge must render a decision. Other ways the mediation process can conclude are listed.

A short history of the mediation process in China is presented, from its beginnings in a small-scale farming society with the emphasis on family loyalties and morality to the present day, where Western influences and modernization challenge traditional values.
