Washington, DC is the newest US Silicon Valley and high-technology industry in its suburbs is one of the country's fastest-growing. The computer industry has used a healthy economy to decrease reliance on government-issue technology and produce more commercial goods and services. The biotechnology industry is another important one due to the influence of the National Institutes of Health.Venture capital has also followed and nouveau-riche entrepreneurs are investing in start-up businesses.

Foreign licensing can offer advantages
Article Abstract:
The retail and service industries, which are increasingly using franchising and licensing agreements as a way of expanding abroad, must be aware of the method's advantages and disadvantages. A company will not need to make a capital investment abroad but will need to invest more at home to develop the licensing program. Companies must accept that licensing means less control over businesses in a foreign market. They should also be sure to protect their trademarks abroad.
