'Televaulting' can help small firms retain files; lawyers without MIS support can use an online file backup service to save their drafts
Article Abstract:
The ABA estimates that slightly over half of US lawyers are working in small firms. Such firms usually lack management information systems and are less likely to perform file backup regularly. According to research, the reason file backup is so infrequent is that backup tools are not user-friendly and take too much time. Until recently, the floppy disk backup method and tape drives, both rife with drawbacks, were the only ones used. Encrypted, online backup via the Internet or private dial-up network is now available and uses proven technology and recent developments make it more affordable.

A firm can integrate voice and data calls
Article Abstract:
The integration of voice and data communication services can bring down costs and speed up connections in a law firm, and multimedia enhancements and video communications heighten the importance of such an integration as well. A digital T1 line can carry voice and data interactions when a fractional T1 service is used, and utilizing one line to its full capacity is more efficient and cost-effective. A contract for a 'switched 56' transmission service to act as a backup will minimize the results of a network failure.
