No: insurmountable barriers
Article Abstract:
Eleanor Holmes Norton's bill, HR 51, which would grant statehood to Washington, DC is in violation of the district clause in Article I, section 8, clause 17 of the US Constitution. This clause grants Congress exclusive power over the seat of the federal government and was drafted to guard against any corruption which might happen due to the location of the national capital in a certain state. A grant of statehood would also be dubious without the prior consent of Maryland, which ceded some areas to the District.

Denial of handgun purchase: a description of the affected population and a controlled study of their handgun preferences
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the denial of handgun acquisitions in California in 1991 and evaluate handgun preferences of persons denied, as a result of past criminal activity, to those of the general population of handgun purchasers. Results indicated that persons denied the right to acquire a handgun because of past criminal activity were more likely to select handguns supporting barrel lengths of three inches or less. They were also more likely to choose small, inexpensive handguns.
