Interviewing insights
Article Abstract:
Interviewing techniques, based on the controlled flow of conversation, allow the development of a fair and open journalist-subject relationship. Mutual trust that disallows judgemental and biased opinions on the part of journalists is basic to this relationship. Adequate preparedness on the interview topic and the art of interviewing help journalists to absorb surprise disclosures and follow new leads. Politely grilling the subject to extract the full story is an art all journalists need to master. Following up with informal visits helps subjects to disclose previously overlooked facts.

It's no secret ... or is it?
Article Abstract:
Opinions on the definition of investigative journalism vary among reporters, journalists, and judges of award giving organizations. Interest on the subject has been renewed by the publication of the third edition of 'The Reporter's Handbook'. Bob Greene, founding member of the IRE Journal, says that investigative reporting is the product of a reporter's own initiative on a topic of public importance. It must uncover facts that someone tries to conceal. All eminent newspersons are unanimous that the border line between investigative reporting and other forms of journalism is very thin.
