Open hearing required to seal records
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts ruled in Massachusetts v. Doe that criminal records can only be sealed with two-stage hearing that provides the moving party to establish the need for sealing and allows interested parties to be heard on the matter. Doe had asked the trial court to seal records of rape investigations that the district attorney chose not to pursue. Doe argued that not sealing the records may impair his reputation and employment opportunities in the future. The high court found that these were not the type of specific harms that would justify sealing court records.

California law won't keep O.J. juror from selling book
Article Abstract:
A US district court in the California Central District found in Dove Audio, Inc. v. Lundgren that a California law restricting the ability of jurors to receive compensation for information was an unconstitutional content-based prior restraint on free speech. Dismissed O.J. Simpson trial juror Michael Knox entered into a contract to publish memoirs about his experiences on the jury. In finding for Knox and his publisher, the court noted that the statute was not tailored narrowly enough and was unreasonably applied to someone who was no longer a juror.
