Scarce skills and scattered substitutes
Article Abstract:
The rapid advances in computer technology are leading us into an age in which vast amounts of information are being recorded, but in which the formats that the information is being stored in are rapidly becoming obsolete, rendering the information, unless it is converted into a new format, inaccessible. It is contended that the pace at which technology is developing is creating a generation of people who are unable to demonstrate a variety of once basic skills without making use of technology.

Child, village and bug
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the contention that it takes a village, or a community, to bring up a child. The question of what to do when the "village" and the child's parents disagree over what is best for the child is examined in the light of moves by some parents to stop their children being vaccinated against various diseases, despite the fact that this is what is best for the larger community.

A fragile cornerstone
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the level of trust required for society to function normally and how this level of trust has been eroded in recent years. It is argued that society is better off if governments are not depended on to micromanage everything and instead people are relied on to be generally trustworthy.
