Son of Sam law unconstitutional
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court has declared New York's Son of Sam law unconstitutional. The law made it illegal for anyone accused or convicted of a crime to profit from books, films or magazine articles which discuss or admit to the crime. The court ruled that the law violates First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and of the press, and would have to be narrowly drawn and serve a compelling government interest in order to be constitutional.
