Tracing the trends: 1991 award winners
Article Abstract:
The stories that won during the 1991 Investigative Reporters and Editors awards focused on important social issues in the US. A great deal of investigative journalism examined cases of police brutality, an influence of the Rodney King beating. Most stories of this nature examined the angle of racial discrimination. Other topics of popularity among journalists were those that dwelled on sexual harassment, the savings and loan scandal, corruption in government, and a variety of frauds and scams.

Top investigative work named in 2003 IRE Awards
Article Abstract:
The annual awards of IRE recognize outstanding investigative work in 15 categories and the judges recognized a wide range of work that included investigations into a major nonprofit environmental organization, a decrepi9t and unsafe school system and the perils of overseas volunteer work. The IRE Awards would feature many of the winners speaking about the techniques they used to develop heir stories.
