The Mactaggart lecture is the annual event at the Edinburgh Television Festival where one individual has the undivided attention of the United Kingdom's television broadcasting industry for 50 minutes. Past speakers have included Ted Turner, Janet Street-Porter, Dennis Potter, Greg Dyke, Michael Grade, Rupert Murdoch, Jeremy Isaacs, and Norman Lear.

UK's lack of global vision

Television broadcasting companies from UK discussed their plans for launching overseas channels and exporting formats at the Royal Television Society conference. Walt Disney's president Bob Iger also outlined his company's plan for global dominance. UK's plans are compared to Walt Disney's.
