Unemployment insurance rules, joblessness, and part-time work
Article Abstract:
Many states provide that recipients of unemployment insurance working part-time could earn a certain amount, termed the 'disregard,' with no reduction in benefits. The disregard may vary across states and within a state over a period of time. A continuous-time job search model is presented. It is shown that an increase in the disregard could increase part-time and re-employment hazards under general conditions. These are tested using data from the Current Population Survey's Displaced Worker Supplements.

The measurement of unemployment: an empirical approach
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the validity of methods being used to differentiate unemployment and out-of-labor force. Three nonemployment states, which include the 'marginally attached', the 'conventional unemployed' and the 'unattached' are also examined to find if the behavior of individuals under the categories are similar. Results show that marginal attachment and nonattachment are different labor force states. Likewise, unemployment and nonattachment are distinct.

Organizing the health insurance market
Article Abstract:
Steps for the organization of a universal health insurance system are outlined. Government initially divides the population into large groups before creating a Federal Health Insurance System (HealthFed) not unlike the Federal Reserve, tasked with the creation of alternatives, solicitation of bids and alternative pricing. Optimal social insurance principles would be evinced in group redistribution. Employment would be unrelated to health insurance.
