Enrollment in college documentary film-making classes is increasing while declining in administrative support. Educators are showing some signs, however, of understanding the need for connecting media production with media literacy in the liberal arts curriculum similarly to connecting writing and reading.

Women in film production classes have unique needs and approaches to learning that must be recognized. Evaluations of final projects could include taking all production into account and having a group of teachers decide the grade.
