Toward a reading of "The World Viewed." (book)
Article Abstract:
Stanley Cavell's book 'The World Viewed' (1971) was aimed at analyzing the various facets of films and their relationship to reality. Although Cavell's book was not initially acclaimed by scholars and teachers of film studies because of its unfamiliar theoretical framework and doubtful practicality, it was later able to prove its worth. The merits of Cavell's book include its radical approach in viewing reality, its conviction to stimulate students' critical analysis about films, and the and conscientiousness that characterized the writing.
