AMP: number of lawmakers at company rally overstated
Article Abstract:
AMP, an electrical-connector manufacturer based in Harrisburg, PA, has acknowledged that it exaggerated the number of Pennsylvania legislators who attended the company rally on Sep. 1, 1998. Those who attended the rally at AMP's headquarters were supposed to express their support for the company in the face of a a hostile takeover valued at $9.8 billion by New Jersey-based aerospace and auto-parts manufacturer AlliedSignal. AMP CEO Robert Ripp apologized for the misinformation and confirmed that 80 legislators did not attend the gathering.
